With it being the end of the month, I’d like to ask how your New Year’s Resolutions are going…. Did you even make any or is that not something you try to accomplish every year? I can probably guess the TOP three of most people and I say most since this might not be true for all. Let me see..
~~~ Lose weight
~~~ Eat healthier foods like more fruits and veggies
~~~ Exercise more or start getting fit
Did I get those right? I can probably think of more but those three come to my mind real fast. If you have an addicting habit or behavior, that could be another one to quit but these are on just about every person’s mind in one way or another. All good stuff that we should be practicing all the time anyway but I’m going to show you another NEW and different approach to tackling “resolutions.” I know it can be intimidating to a lot of you. Heck, I’m in that category too sometimes and it’s hard to keep on track or have that positive attitude all the time.
How about focusing more on other interests instead of obsessing over body image all the time? I know we need to keep track of our physical health but what about our spiritual health? Yep, that’s important too or you wouldn’t be reading this blog. Don’t worry– I’m not saying become a guru and start taking pilgrimages everywhere. Just some small easy things you can start implementing right now to be more balanced with your life. As with anything new, take it one step at a time and focus on small things to accomplish first. Those successes will lead to bigger and more successes.
First off, write stuff down! I know this sounds crazy to some of you or that you won’t have time but those are excuses and we can’t have any. By actually writing or typing (whatever you choose) you will remember more than just thoughts in your head. I mean really— those thoughts will leave in two seconds as our brains are filled with thousands of thoughts all the time! Make attainable goals that you WILL do and then you can move on to more challenging ones. I know so far this doesn’t sound spiritual, but believe me when I say that your spirit will thank you because it boosts your confidence. Spirituality isn’t all about meditating or divination.. although those actions can help too!
I’ve talked about little things before but think of stuff you enjoy doing and do more of it. How is that a resolution? Well, you are focusing on what brings you joy and not stressing over other things. You can write down:
“Do more things that fill me with joy.” It can be that simple. Make a list of all those things that are feasible and won’t break your bank. Maybe after a little while, you can start stepping outside your comfort zone and branching out some. Take a class. Start a new project. Learn a new skill. Go on an adventure. Those “bucket lists” you maybe have made in your head? DO them! Once you feel good, the mindset changes. Feel good about your list first and then act on it. Don’t fill it with 100 things since come on, that’s not a reality. It can be over a longer period of time like possibly a year if it’s small things but don’t let a number scare you into not acting. Eliminate that way of thinking. It will only trip you up into not taking action. Possibly set a new goal every month if you want to go the yearly route.
Last week’s post was about the Law of Attraction so keep that thinking as you set your goals. Remember, like attracts like. Once you feel good about your thoughts—more good ones come your way. I’m not saying to become selfish and not do good for others but self-care is super important and we should practice little things everyday. It doesn’t even need to take up too much of your time. If you do resolve to try a new idea, give it some time to develop and be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day either! It can be as simple also as trying to take a walk around the block every single day. Ok, maybe if it’s like -20 you won’t go—ugh–this weather here but keep at it! Yes, that’s physical but it all works together to stay focused and walking really clears your head spiritually as well.
If you want more risks, you can try them but be careful! Do what you like first and then you can step into the unknown. Maybe you have a fear you’d like to get rid of? Maybe those “back burner” ideas can take center stage for once and become a reality. Think of those for yourself since we all have them. Stop constantly putting yourself down or thinking you can’t, aren’t good enough, or don’t deserve things. YOU DO! We all do but it’s just a matter of implementing them into your life and having regular practices. For me, last year I started setting a weekly intention which I’ve mentioned before. No, it wasn’t a New Year thing but I’ve kept at it and always remember. I probably won’t forget if I don’t write it down but I do anyway since it’s part of my weekly schedule. I place a new intention in my Lotus Lantern and then burn the previous one. I love it and it brings me purpose for the week. I wrote down professional ideas this past year and I gotta say—- I did them!!! Maybe not in the way of others or what could’ve happened but they worked for me!
I just recently took an idea from someone else after the end of 2018 and wrote down all the stuff I did that was new—personally and professionally. I tell people things and they are blown away but in my mind I never really FELT it. Then, I wrote them all down and WOW!! It made me feel so good and yes, some were already written but knowing what I accomplished was amazing to me. Family adventures too! It really does matter so give it a try. You will FEEL different, I guarantee it.
So, there’s my new list of trying different approaches for 2019 so I do hope you can implement some in your life. Make your list work for you and not against you. What I mean is a do and don’t list. If you want to try and meditate and never have DON’T say: “meditate everyday.” Nope, that might not work for you. Maybe but probably not. DO this instead:“meditate 10 min. for 7 days.” That still might be too much for some but at least you are specific. I know I put numbers in there but they are small and will make you think differently about achieving them.
I wish you all the best of success for making more spiritually aligned resolutions this year along with those physical ones! Think outside the box when you are ready without it being too forced. Feel good first and then your thoughts and goals will work in your favor. I so hope this post serves you and let me know what new resolutions you will be making into a practice this year!
